New Leaders Of The Civil Rights Movement

You can not incriminate someone just for being a “person” from a particular area. That is not an opinion, that is a fact, backed by law. These values remain to be supported by the documentation of countless cases. Each of which, has cemented these inalienable international human principles into the hearts and minds of the good people of America. Learn more about Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey: http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/politics/immigration/2014/12/16/proceeds-arpaio-suit-fund-asu-journalism-chair/20480479/

Despite these explicit precepts ingrained into our very own American culture by our own legislators, many still fall subject to discrimination.Currently, if authorities even suspect you of having illegal status, they can detain you. The enforcement of recent immigration laws, under a jurisdiction perceived as trivial, should not be adhered. A Presidential outbursts claiming that all Mexicans are murderers and rapists, is in fact, racist, and should be reprimanded not made into law. Whoever is sanctioning these human rights violations against people who have not committed a crime against America country men, is as unAmerican as those who he claims should find no refuge in our great country.

I wonder, just how effective is the ACLU in dire times such as these? Border law enforcement has gone to such an extent, that Immigrant workers are becoming victims of law enforcement abuse, much too often. Stereotyping and racial profiling, seem to be the only grounds which our suffering immigrated population, are being denied due process and mudered for.

That is up until the recent case triumph of Michael and Jim. The two Co-founders of Phoenix New Times and The Village Voice Media and Phoenix New Times, where they each were wrongfully arrested by Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Resulting in a unique chain of events, in contrast to other happenings. The two independent media owners, won in their case against Arpaio, and then used the settlement as funding towards several of Arizona’s migrant rights organizations.

The settlement allotted the two gentlemen, was for a whopping $3.75 million after one night in 2007, where each was pulled from their respective residences and jailed. What exactly was their crime? Obviously nothing, since we know that they won the case. But what is entirely disturbing about their story is this.

The reason they had undergone such a trying time is purely because of the evidence that Arpaio feared could be made available in their own notes, which covered the litigation that could jeopardize Joe Arpaio’s career as Maricopa County Sheriff.

Though population increase of immigrants is frequently blamed for crime and civil unrest, it is clear as day that the true culprit here, is none other than the one who is supposed to be upholding the law. While men in uniform are in pursuit of these victims of scapegoat, they are in pursuit of none other than their own happiness. Who is going to pursue the predatory police or investigate their interrogations of migrant workers.

Can the ACLU do nothing to combat legally backed racism? Will causes of social vigilance and awareness, such as Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin’s Frontera Fund , be the voice of a desperate generation? I think we speak for all Americans, documented and undocumented, as we cry out for change.
